Edible RFID and wireless temperature monitoring
Thursday, 25 August 2011 09:03

When I saw a video about edible RFID, I thought it was pretty farfetched. However, considering the current E.Coli outbreak in Germany which has claimed 25 lives, you can see how it might make sense. Read about the E. Coli outbreak.

In Europe, they appear to be confused concerning the source of this outbreak. They suspect Spanish cucumbers, but they can’t tell for sure. If those cucumbers had been tracked with the tags, investigating doctors could have found the source quickly. Add the possibility of food poisoning through cooked meat, a worldwide concern, and you can see that E. Coli is possible everywhere.

At Matrix PD, while we don’t have edible RFID technology, we do have a wireless temperature monitoring probe. It is used for cooking meat in commercial ovens. This allows meat processing plants to ensure the meat has been cooked completely to the core. So while you must still watch out for cucumbers, tomatoes and other risky vegetables, you can be assured your meat has been prepared to the highest of safety standards.

If you are troubled by the possibility of E. Coli in your commercial cooking of meat, contact Matrix Product Development and let us know your particular situation. We will be able to offer a solution and help you prevent the spread of E. Coli. Contact us today for a free consultation.
