RFID, helping take out the laundry, and so much more
RFID technology is so adaptable, it continues to amaze me. It is flexible enough to be used in healthcare, surgery, retail, and general business applications. Today, I read about one of the most creative uses for RFID technology. Invotech is using RFID to actually track uniforms and linens in their casino hotel business. This is such an ingenious idea! Presently, it is used primarily for tracking large amounts of uniforms from the laundry service back to the perspective owner, as well as decreasing the time needed for sorting.
However, take a moment with me to think about where this idea could lead. If technicians, in a massive casino-hotel, wore these tagged uniforms, an operator could merely waylay the nearest technician to the site of an issue without even bothering the other technicians. This would save time which is of great value in any business. If police uniforms were tagged and able to be read by the police car itself, the police support team could know how many stops were made as well as their duration. They could also send backup if the police officer was out of his car for an unreasonable amount of time.
These are just two ideas for this type of RFID usage. If you think about your business, is there a way RFID tagged uniforms could help you? If so, please contact Ron Pulvermacher of Matrix Product Development. He has extensive RFID experience, especially in health-care. Email him today at
