RFID technology solves clinical inventory management problems
Thursday, 25 August 2011 12:17

Recently, in the "ask the experts" section of the rfidjournal.com website, a question was asked about advantages of radio frequency identification technology over bar codes in a hospital cath lab environment. The response given was as follows:

"If you are checking an item in once and checking it out once, barcodes are fine. However, if the products have expiration dates and must be counted every other day, then scanning the entire cabinet in seconds with a handheld scanner makes much more sense."

Smart Cabinets can be used but scanning the entire room with existing cabinets is even more economical and allows one to tag lower cost items.

Tagging each product with an inexpensive UHF tag allows you to:

  • Minimize risk of using expired inventory
  • Track procedure costs by doctor
  • Track patient procedure costs
  • Generate re-order reports
  • Track "Cross Over" product costs
  • Save labor and take the drudgery out of taking manual inventory.

We have created such a product specifically for surgery rooms. You can view it on our WYZE-Scan product page.

If you are struggling with an inventory management problem in your surgery rooms, or if you are merely looking for a way to save time and money, we have found a solution that will work for you.
