High Power Bluetooth Technology

Standard Bluetooth technology has a very short distance of transmission.  The Bluetooth that people typically use for their phones has about a 10 m range.  This is good for short distance applications like the phone connecting to the wireless headset, but it limits the use of Bluetooth for other applications.  This problem has given rise to a new version of Bluetooth, high power Bluetooth.

High power Bluetooth technology has the potential to change the way that mobile devices connecting to the internet.  By offering a higher power version of the original Bluetooth technology, the transmission distance of the wireless signal can be increased to up to 30 kilometers.  This has huge implications for where people can use hand-held wireless devices. 

High Power Bluetooth uses less power than wifi, making it a more efficient way of transmitting data.  Also many people lose their WiFi signal even in their own home because they are too far away from the transmitter.  The high power Bluetooth signal can replace WiFi or complement WiFi in the home.

High Power Bluetooth can also clear up some of the network clutter with 3G and 4G networks by allowing people to use an extension of their home internet.  The large radius of the signal allows people to leave their home and still connect to a Bluetooth signal.

One of the foreseeable applications for this process is streaming videos like Skype over long distances around the home and Bluetooth area.  Another is wireless speakers can be set up anywhere in the home and be connected to the computer’s playlist no matter where the computer is in the house, thus eliminating long cords or the need to leave an iPod unattended.  Wireless cable streaming is another possibility.  With the proliferation of iPods and iPads and other handheld devices, cable companies can now start offering a way for people to watch TV wherever they are.  Bluetooth can increase the locations people can watch their TV.
