Leave the traditional barcode system behind. Wireless technologies have the ability to drastically reduce costs and increase efficiency. There are two big problems with barcoding, which is causing everyone to go wireless!
This is a two part blog, meaning it consists of three separate blog posts each containing a big problem with barcodes. Don’t want to overload you (the reader) with one giant article.
Here’s part one!
Time Is Money!
It’s an old American cliché, but it still holds true today, “Time is money!” There are only so many hours in a day, days in a week, week in a year.
Benjamin Franklin once wrote, “We can buy more money with time than we can buy time with money.” He understood the power a few more hours in a work day could provide to any business.
All you have to do is ask yourself one question…
What is the opportunity cost of spending time manually counting inventory with barcode scanner instead of using wireless technologies?
Wireless inventory tracking has the ability to scan entire warehouses in a fraction of the time with astounding precision when compared to manual barcode scanning.
Here is an example of a logical application for adopting wireless technologies.
Currently in hospital heart catheterization labs nurses have to go into each room and manually scan every item of inventory’s barcode. They perform this task every couple of days, and is a tremendous waste of time, because it’s tedious and not accurate. Considering the amount of time lost having to do this about every other day is ridiculous!
Nurses shouldn’t be manually counting inventory. They should be spending time caring for and treating patients, aka their job.
If hospitals go wireless in their catheterization labs, they would not only save enormous amounts of money, but also would immensely increase labor efficiency since one person could do the job of three people in LESS time.
Take some time and think about it…what are you missing out on by not going wireless?
That was part one! Check back for part two, which will be posted shortly…
